Stories are an integral part of any society. A human being listens to stories from grandparents in childhood. Later, when he goes to school , he reads stories in his syllabus books. And as an adult whether he watches a movie, a TV Serial or reads a novel, they all have a story.

The reason why stories are crucial to survival is that they give us lessons. They make us ponder on our actions and behaviors. Also, they have the power to teach us values and morals of life.

Expressive Himani's short inspiring stories is one such initiative to arise and awaken young minds. The purpose of stories posted here is to inspire the reader for taking positive action which is fruitful for both himself/herself and the society at large.

Also, at the end of every story, one or more thought provoking questions are asked which you can answer willingly in the comment section.

Mridul meets Sejal

Once there was a Maple tree - Mridul standing near the river bank. He was at the edge of the jungle and had no other Maple trees to talk with. He felt aloof and wondered how he got this life here while all other Maple trees were in the middle of jungle. Anny, an ant lived in the soil nearby. She knew the story of Mridul being there. Mridul asked her to tell her about it.

Anny told him about what had happened few years back.

'I remember that dreadly day. I along with my friends was very happy as we had stocked a lot of food for upcoming days. But unfortunately, it started raining and the river overflowed. And with it all our food was also flown. The rain got over, sun came and everything dried. But we had got nothing to live on. We were walking near the river bank just when we noticed a squirrel digging in the soil, nearby.'

'We went to her and learnt that she lived in the middle of the jungle leading a happy life. She loved jumping around , finding nuts and was very fond of maple tree seeds. It was her favorite food which she could get in plenty as there were a lot of maple trees in the jungle.'

'She told us that she had come there to research on the area near bank. We told her that we knew about the place and could help her. She was exhilarated at this.'

'We told her how we were out of food. She felt sad and asked if she could help us with maple seeds and some nuts(which she had brought with her). I said that nuts were enough for us. But Sejal asked me to keep the maple seed as backup in case it rains again. I and my friends thanked Sejal and felt blessed. She went back after her research was completed. And we never saw her back since then.'

'But how it is related to me being here?' said Mridul.
'It is related to you, Mridul. Let me complete it' she said
'Now, I and my colony consumed only the nuts. We kept the maple seed in damp soil to keep it fresh. But later, we forgot about it as we got plenty of other foods as well, as the spring season arrived.'

'The maple seed got appropriate water, soil and sunlight. It grew into a sapling, then into a shrub and then into a big Maple Tree and that is you -Mridul, the result of Sejal's good deed of kindness.'

Mridul felt thankful for Sejal and hoped to meet her some day.

After some days, the forest where Sejal lived, caught fire and all the animals living there, started leaving the jungle. All the trees in the middle of jungle got burnt. There was no shelter for her. She did not know where to go. She was very disappointed and prayed to God. Soon, she recalled about the place she had researched on. She decided to go there.

After crossing a long route, she reached the river-bank. That part of jungle remained hydrated because of river. She drank water after so many days. She sat there and felt nostalgic about her visit there, years before.

Just when, Anny noticed her and welcomed her back. Sejal and Anny had a good talk about the place. Sejal told her about the forest fire. Anny asked her not to worry and took Sejal to Mridul. She told her about the transformation of the maple seed to Mridul. And because of its location near river bank, Mridul was saved from burning in the forest fire.

He thanked her and offered her shelter. Sejal felt overwhelmed to meet Mridul and spent rest of her life there only.

GOOD DEEDS ALWAYS COME BACK TO US IN ONE OR OTHER WAY, AND SOMETIMES IN THE MOST UNEXPECTED WAYS. DO YOU AGREE?
