Stories are an integral part of any society. A human being listens to stories from grandparents in childhood. Later, when he goes to school , he reads stories in his syllabus books. And as an adult whether he watches a movie, a TV Serial or reads a novel, they all have a story.

The reason why stories are crucial to survival is that they give us lessons. They make us ponder on our actions and behaviors. Also, they have the power to teach us values and morals of life.

Expressive Himani's short inspiring stories is one such initiative to arise and awaken young minds. The purpose of stories posted here is to inspire the reader for taking positive action which is fruitful for both himself/herself and the society at large.

Also, at the end of every story, one or more thought provoking questions are asked which you can answer willingly in the comment section.

Paritosh and Latish

Once there was a wise and beautiful bird, Paritosh. He had attained fool-proof wisdom of how to survive in jungle after years of hard-work. But He was generous enough to give that wisdom to all other animals without expecting anything from them. His purpose was establishing peace in the jungle.

There were many cruel animals in the jungle, who used to kill other animals. But disciples of Master Paritosh could save themselves from them by following His guidelines.
In the same jungle a lion, Latish, also lived. He had heard a lot about Master Paritosh and thought of meeting Him. But he did not want to scare other animals. So, he wrote a letter to Master Paritosh to fix his meeting.

Master Paritosh accepted his request and they met in dark at a lonely place. Only one other disciple of the Master, a hare had come along to meet Latish. The lion Latish, listened to teachings of Master Paritosh and was moved at heart. He felt gulity of killing so many animals in his life and decided not to kill any animal from then. And after that meeting he kept his promise and practiced the teachings of his Master.

After some days, Master Paritosh left the jungle and migrated to hills for practicing deep meditation. Everybody became sad and started missing their Master. But Master Paritosh used to send letters as His message to guide all his disciples in His absence. And then, everyone survived by following guidelines sent in those letters.

One day, everything was going as usual in the jungle. Just then, an angry mad elephant came and started destroying the whole jungle. All the animals started running here and there. But the disciples of Master Paritosh gathered and prayed to the Master. After some time, they got a letter from their Master Paritosh. He had asked them to calm down and ordered the hare to call lion Latish.

The hare followed what he was asked to do. He was not afraid that he was going to meet a lion who could kill him.
But some other animals were scared at first. They thought why their Master had called a lion when an elephant was already enough to pester them. But some of them who had strong belief in the Master's teaching trusted Him and stayed. Nobody, except the Master and the hare knew that Latish was not a normal lion. He was his true disciple and followed his instructions completely.

Latish arrived with hare on his back and bowed down to the statue of his Master Paritosh. The hare read the message to Latish that the Master had ordered him to stop the mad elephant. Then, Latish, who had stopped killing animals as promised to his Master, still went to fight with the mad elephant, again to please his Master.

The mad elephant was very strong. He had uprooted big trees and was shaking his head and trumpeting loudly to declare that nobody had the strength to stop him. He thought that he was all-powerful in the jungle.
The lion Latish observed him carefully first and then, after remembering his Master, attacked at the neck of the elephant with his full might. The attack was totally unexpected for the elephant. His furious trumpet got coverted into pathetic groan. He tried to stop the lion and use his strength to save himself. But the lion's attack was so powerful that after struggling for few minutes, the mad elephant fell on the ground, motionless. The lion climbed on a rock nearby and roared, not at his success but to send the message to Master Paritosh to thank Him.

Listening to his call from the depth of heart, the Master returned from his deep meditation state and blessed everyone with his blissful Sight

All the jungle animals were exhilarated to see their Master back again. They cried, made merry and expressed their feelings in every way they could. Master Paritosh then, gave the responsibility of safety of all the animals and maintainence of peace to the lion from then onwards. And everyone accepted Latish as their beloved King. But Latish knew who had done this miracle in his life, of course, his Master - Paritosh.

FAITH CAN NOT ONLY MOVE MOUNTAINS BUT ALSO ARRANGE THE MOUNTAINS IN ORDER TO MAKE THE PATH TO REACH THE ULTIMATE SOURCE OF PEACE AND DIVINITY.
