Stories are an integral part of any society. A human being listens to stories from grandparents in childhood. Later, when he goes to school , he reads stories in his syllabus books. And as an adult whether he watches a movie, a TV Serial or reads a novel, they all have a story.

The reason why stories are crucial to survival is that they give us lessons. They make us ponder on our actions and behaviors. Also, they have the power to teach us values and morals of life.

Expressive Himani's short inspiring stories is one such initiative to arise and awaken young minds. The purpose of stories posted here is to inspire the reader for taking positive action which is fruitful for both himself/herself and the society at large.

Also, at the end of every story, one or more thought provoking questions are asked which you can answer willingly in the comment section.

Little Koko

Once, there was a little brown puppy, Koko, living in a street along with his mother and five brothers.
His mother would bring leftovers, breads etc. the housemaids would give her, for Koko and his siblings.

She would drop the food from her mouth at the entrance of little brick house the locale children had made for them. All the little puppies would come rolling, snatch, tear and eat every bit of the little food they got, except Koko.

He would keep sitting at his place and never participate in the fighting and snatching. He was very selective about what to eat and what not. While everyone savoured sweets on festivals, he kept a distance and focussed more on learning guarding skills from his father.
As a result, Koko grew smart out of all his siblings.

One day, the housemaid's little daughter came for playing in the street. She threw a ball at the dog-house which hit straight at Koko's head , as he awoke from his afternoon nap. While all other in his house were enjoying their nap, he got up. He heard a baby crying as his ears straightened up.

Koko sniffed the ball and then put it in his mouth. He then, headed towards the source of smell and ended up at the little girl standing outside the dog-house and crying for her ball.

The little girl moved her hands out of her face as she saw cute little puppy holding her ball . She gently knelt to him as he dropped the ball in her hand. She stopped crying and looked at Koko with affection .She left the ball aside and started playing with Koko, instead.

She was too busy, playing, to discover that her father had arrived. He asked her to take her ball and go home. But she began to cry as she was not ready to leave Koko. Her father grabbed her and took her to home.

Koko followed her as she was crying. She stopped crying when she saw Koko. Koko stood outside the house only to make sure the girl does not cry again. He carried her ball in her mouth which she had left near the dog-house.

The little girl's mother came to close the door. 'What a cute and active puppy!' she exclaimed to her husband, 'Can't we adopt him?' she continued. Her husband looked at the little girl who looked at him with puppy-dog eyes as if asking for a yes. 'Okay, if you want to,' replied the father of little girl.
She readily took Koko in her arms and took him inside the home.

Now, Koko lived with a loving companion, played with her, he did not have to participate in any snatching and tearing of food as he would get what he needed at one place.

WAS IT A LUCK-BY-CHANCE THAT THE BALL HIT KOKO'S HEAD ONLY AND NONE OF HIS BROTHERS? OR IT WAS REWARD OF HIS PATIENCE, SELF-CONTROL AND PERSEVERANCE HE WAS PRACTICING FROM A LONG TIME?

  2. The story is too obvious. It's becoming more cliche. I have read Better stories than this in Nagraj Comics. Please expand your imagination.
