Stories are an integral part of any society. A human being listens to stories from grandparents in childhood. Later, when he goes to school , he reads stories in his syllabus books. And as an adult whether he watches a movie, a TV Serial or reads a novel, they all have a story.

The reason why stories are crucial to survival is that they give us lessons. They make us ponder on our actions and behaviors. Also, they have the power to teach us values and morals of life.

Expressive Himani's short inspiring stories is one such initiative to arise and awaken young minds. The purpose of stories posted here is to inspire the reader for taking positive action which is fruitful for both himself/herself and the society at large.

Also, at the end of every story, one or more thought provoking questions are asked which you can answer willingly in the comment section.

Siya and Riya

Once there lived a farmer with his two pets: Siya -a cow and Riya -a sparrow, in the countryside. He was very happy with Siya, for she was calm and serene and gave pure milk which fulfilled the farmer's daily needs. Also he felt divine by mere presence of Siya as she illuminated with positive vibes, radiating the whole place with her pacifying aura.

On the contrary, Riya was more of a nuisance for the farmer, for all she did was - chirping around the house, scattering things here and there, and startling the farmer every now and then by abrubtly emerging from small hiding places where she was least expected to be present. He was very unhappy with Riya. But because of fast friendship between Siya and Riya, he kept his mouth shut.

Siya and Riya would go for a walk together daily. Siya treated Riya like her younger sister. She would let her sit on her back and save her from farmer's wrath at times. Riya also liked Siya so much. She would sing songs for her and fly away to find the most green grounds for grazing for Siya.

One day, Riya was roaming around. She saw the farmer sowing seeds in the fields. An idea knocked at her mischivious mind and she immediately took on it. After the farmer had completed his work, he went home to take rest. Riya, along with her fellow sparrows attacked on the fields and picked all the seeds and filled their nests with grain.Within few minutes, the whole fields was empty and it looked like nobody had ever sow anything there. The farmer came back to the fields after taking rest. He held his head, took a stick and headed towards Riya's nest.

Riya saw the farmer coming in her direction. She got scared and hid behind Siya. The farmer was determined to take the toll on Riya that day. But he did not find her at her nest.He searched for Riya in the house, took all the big utensils, wooden logs and sacks out. But he could not find her anywhere.Siya asked him to calm down and take rest. Even she did not know that Riya was behind her. She was worried about Riya.Riya came out when the farmer's wrath was gone and Siya had calmed him down enough for her to appear before him now.

But farmer got angry as soon as he saw Riya. Siya asked him to spare her for one last time and he had to agree. After that Riya did not make any mischief which made the environment of house calm and boring. Siya and the farmer started missing her little acts which bothered them at times. But they could not say that.

One day, Siya was going to some new fields for grazing. Riya was also sitting on her back, but silently. Just when, Riya felt a jerk in her ride. Riya asked Siya what the matter was. She told her that her back legs had been caught in bog and she was unable to take them out. Riya asked her to try again. But all Siya's efforts went in vain.

Riya immediately flew to the farmer. She started circling around him in the air, chirping and shreiking like anything. The farmer was happy to hear her but confused about what had happened. Riya searched for a rope nearby and started flying above it.The farmer noticed that Siya was not with her and she looked startled. He took the rope and followed Riya as she flew and led him to Siya.

Siya was already half way down in the bog till they reached there. The farmer, along with his other friends took Siya out of the bog and saved her life.Siya and the farmer thanked Riya for taking quick action and saving Siya.

IF SIYA HAD NOT TRUSTED ON RIYA, SHE MIGHT HAVE LOST HER LIFE. WAS IT JUST A COINCIDENCE? WAS THE FARMER TOO QUICK IN JUDGING RIYA?
WHOSE CHARACTER DID YOU LIKE THE MOST IN THIS STORY- SIYA, RIYA OR THE FARMER?
